Owners: We
recommend that you have your tribute professionally installed
if you're going to place it on a monument stone. Please contact
us for details. If you clean the stone or bronze marker that
has a tribute installed do not use
abrasive cleaners or brushes on the tribute itself. Use a soft,
clean cloth and a mild detergent. If you use a mild solution
of muriatic acid to clean stone it will not hurt the tribute’s
coating, but be sure you rinse the solution thoroughly. You
do not want any residual acid solution remaining between the
tribute and the stone. Out gassing can occur that might eventually
damage the finish.
If
you purchased a tribute to display indoors, either mounted on
an urn or framed, a glass cleaner and soft, clean cloth is all
you’ll ever need. You can mount the tribute under glass
if you like, but it’s not necessary.
Caretakers: The
tribute is a permanent addition to the stone or bronze marker.
If you use a muriatic acid solution to clean the stone it will
not hurt the protective coating. Be especially careful not to
use stiff brushes or cloths that may be contaminated with grit
to rub the tribute’s surface. This can scratch the protective
coating. Be sure to rinse all cleaners thoroughly from around
the tribute. Residual acid accumulating between the stone and
the metal can cause out gassing that could damage the protective
coating. If any graffiti should appear on the tribute do
not use standard paint strippers to remove it,
especially those containing methylene chloride.
Graffiti
removal - product recommendations:
As
mentioned above, do not use
any cleaners or paint removers containing methylene
chloride. I recommend using a product designed
to gently clean graffiti. You might try a heavy duty commercial
cleaner like Greased Lightning, a citrus based cleaner or other
cleaner that can be found at Home Depot or Lowes.

Permanent
felt tip markers are the hardest to remove unless it’s
done early, within the first 24 - 48 hours.
